When you complete the Certificate II in Furniture Making (Cabinet Making/Furniture Making Pre-Apprenticeship) you'll be what employers are looking for in an apprentice furniture maker or cabinet maker.

Cabinet makers work from plans or drawings to make home and office furniture, including built-in cupboards and fixtures for new homes and shops. Furniture making concentrates on the production of solid and free standing furniture.

Many employers now prefer apprenticeship applicants to have completed a pre-apprenticeship. This course will give you the skills, knowledge and behaviours to prepare you and make you more competitive when applying for apprenticeship positions. It will give you a better chance of gaining an apprenticeship and a flying start in learning a trade.

Begin your career in glass and glazing

Complete this pre-apprenticeship and you'll be what employers are looking for in an apprentice glazier.

You'll gain skills and knowledge in basic glass and glazing techniques and have the opportunity to put your skills into practice in the workplace. You will learn from passionate lecturers with extensive trades experience in our fully equipped glazing workshop.

The Building and Construction industry is one of the largest employers in Australia. Due to the successful mining resource sector, increasing economic activity and migration to Australia from overseas, there is currently a massive shortage of residential homes, apartments, and commercial buildings. This has led to huge demand for qualified tradesmen and Apprentices in all trades.

North Metropolitan TAFE's exciting new mortar trades course is perfect for those not sure of which trade is for them. You'll cover bricklaying, wall and floor tiling, solid plastering and wall and ceiling fixing.

Offered at our Balga and Clarkson campuses, you'll gain an introduction to each of the above trades. You can then decide which trade pathway to choose, and the relevant lecturer will help organise work placement with a qualified employer which can lead to an Apprenticeship and the start of a successful and rewarding career.

Carpenters and joiners construct, install, renovate and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, wallboard and other materials, and cut, shape and fit timber parts to form structures and fittings.

When you complete this pre-apprenticeship you'll be what employers are looking for as an apprentice carpenter and joiner. Give yourself a better chance of gaining an apprenticeship and a flying start in learning a trade.

Are you looking for an electrical career and current skills?

When you complete the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start)(Electrotechnology Pre-Apprenticeship) you'll be what employers are looking for as an apprentice in the electrical, instrumentation or electrical servicing trades.

Are you looking for an electronics career and current skills?

When you complete the Certificate II in Data and Voice Communications you'll be flicking the switch on a career in electronics, as a data cabler or telecommunications technician (with additional training).

• install and maintain telecommunication cabling 
• secure electrotechnological equipment
• assemble and dismantle components
• use cabling drawings
• understand standards, codes and specifications and
• workplace health and safety

It includes ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) requirements for open cabler registration.

When you complete the Certificate II in Plumbing (Plumbing Pre-Apprenticeship) you'll be what employers are looking for as an apprentice plumber, roof plumber, or gasfitter.

You will gain the knowledge and skills to work effectively in the construction industry, use hand and power tools, oxy-acetylene and arc weld, read plans, calculate quantities, cut and join sheet metal, work safely at heights, and workplace health and safety.
