This qualification will provide you with analytical skills in mechanical engineering, as an engineering technician, detailed drafter or maintenance technician.

You will gain the advanced skills and knowledge to carry out mechanical engineering, drafting and design, analytical work involving manufacturing and fabrication techniques, understand the application of engineering principles, systems, and processes, draw and design mechanical equipment, maintain mechanical systems and workplace health and safety. You will also develop skills to engage in work which is basically analytical with a good background understanding of manufacturing and fabrication techniques and develop a broad understanding of the applications of engineering principles, materials, systems, standards and processes. 

A significant feature of the qualification is its practical learning-by-doing project component.

South Metropolitan TAFE's Carlisle campus has specialty workshops and equipment to prepare you for these highly demanded trades. Past student projects have included design specifications for Rosco McGlashan's new Aussie Invader vehicle, and design and production of an automated injecting system used by Royal Perth Hospital for testing quantity and speed of delivery of new medications.
