This qualification provides you with two pathways:

Metals pathway - you will have the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the engineering or heavy automotive industry, using hand and power tools, thermal cutting, welding, forging and casting, technical drafting, and workplace safety and health.

Heavy plant pathway - you will have the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the engineering or heavy automotive industry, using workshop machines, welding and soldering, thermal cutting, using hand and power tools, and workplace safety and health.

Successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to become a trades assistant, gain an apprenticeship as an electroplater, surface finisher, foundry worker, plant mechanic or ship builder, or gain a traineeship in engineering. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice/trainee before you can commence apprenticeship/traineeship training.

VET Student Loans

VET Student Loans is the new program that replaces the current VET FEE HELP scheme.
