This qualification contains the competencies required by an experienced deckhand undertaking a wide range of fishing operation tasks.  Individuals operating at this level undertake a broad range of routine processes and procedures which may include vessel handling, using electronic fishing aids, navigation, charter operations, commercial fishing techniques, basic fisheries management and marine science knowledge.
You will gain knowledge and skills in:

·         Operating a small vessel and seamanship skills

·         Applying coastal navigation and meteorology skills

·         Applying principles and knowledge of marine biology and ecology to practical tasks

·         Developing fisheries management skills

·         Applying commercial fishing techniques

·         Using technology in the field of Aquaculture
