With a growing importance on conservation and environmental impact of business on ecosystems, conservation and ecosystem restoration, this is a good time to join this industry. It is a slow but growing area that is linked to our resource industry and increasing issues with the degradation of ecosystems.

This course covers the skills and knowledge you need to apply a range of methods and technologies to conduct environmental sampling, testing and monitoring. The skills are used in most industry sectors and to assist environmental scientists, engineers and planners with site assessment, minimising environmental impacts of processes and remediation/rehabilitation of sites.

Certificate IV in Certificate IV in Environmental Monitoring and Technology

This qualification specifies the competencies required to conduct environmental sampling, testing and monitoring in a variety of industries and contexts, including but not limited to:

  • Environmental monitoring, sampling and field testing (e.g. air, water, soil and rocks)
  • Geotechnical services
  • Natural resource management
  • Water supply and treatment, and storm and wastewater management
  • Solid and hazardous waste management.

This qualification applies to environmental assistants, environmental technicians and similar personnel typically employed by enterprises, service providers, non-government organisations or Commonwealth, state/territory/local governments.

Many of these employees are engaged in the monitoring of environmental impacts at industrial sites. They operate monitoring equipment, collect samples and conduct tests in the field and/or at site laboratories. Other employees may collect a range of field data relating to the suitability of land, levels of water use and similar factors and process and present these data using geographical information systems (GIS) software.

This course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge needed within the conservation industry, to enter the work force in either private, local or state government sectors.

Please note: Conservation and Ecosystem Management involves physical labour and students will be required to demonstrate a reasonable level of fitness and mobility.
