Environmental Science

Care for and handle horses and maintain stables, studs and agistment centres, learn skills in stable management, transporting horses, basic riding, grooming, hoof care, horse health and handling, gear and rugging, race day procedures and breeding. Learn to ride or drive and handle horses during trackwork, race meetings and trials in either the thoroughbred or harness racing industries. Also learn about the principles of sports science relevant to jockeys and how to participate in media interviews, race protests, inquiries and appeals.

An environmental science qualification will prepare you for work not only locally, but internationally as well. You wil build an underlying knowledge of plant and animal identification, environmental chemistry and geology. You will work with industry and community based organisations in the field of conservation, and ensure sustainable landscapes.

You will be able to focus your attention to various areas such as natural resource management, land management, minesite rehabilitation, with areas of specialisation in Indigenous land management, weed management, vertebrate pest management, parks and wildlife management, conservation earthworks, and natural area restoration.

These qualifications prepare you to provide care functions in an animal care workplace, including basic animal nutrition, animal health care, retail service procedures, work health and safety, animal ethics and handling and transporting animals.

Learn about how to operate as a high quality agribusiness by developing knowledge in agricultural production and management, rural merchandising, technical roles and research and development. Training can also provide knowledge of general agricultural practices across livestock and cropping production systems.
