TAFE Admissions Full time studies guide
This guide provides information on full time courses offered each semester by all WA TAFE colleges. This includes information on competitive and non-competitive courses, entrance requirements, selection criteria and any other additional requirements where applicable. Main intake
Applications open — Thursday 3 September 2026
Applications open 8.30am for all full time courses starting in Semester 1, 2027.
Applications and preference change close - Friday 30 October 2026
Main intake applications close. Change of preferences close for all courses.
You can change your preferences by logging in via tasonline.tafe.wa.edu.au
Up to this date, you can:
- add new preferences, for any course;
- change the order of the preferences;
- cancel preferences; or
- change the campus of an existing preference
Offers (competitive courses) - Thursday 3 December 2026
Offers can be viewed online at tasonline.tafe.wa.edu.au and will be emailed from 3:00pm.
Offers (non-competitive courses) – Thursday 3 September 2026 to Friday 5 February 2027
Offers are made throughout the intake for courses that are not competitive.

Late applications
Late applications open Saturday 31 October 2026
Late (Waitlist) applications will be accepted for courses not filled through the main intake. Not all courses will be available during this period, and applications will only be considered if places are still available.
Late applications close - Friday 5 February 2027
Late (Waitlist) applications close 3.00pm. No further offers will be issued after this date, and students who missed out are encouraged to apply in Semester 2, 2027.

Offers for the late applications will be released as main intake enrolments are completed and available places are known up until 5 February 2027.
Entrance requirements
Entry to full time study can be achieved in a number of ways. The requirements, and how these can be met, are outlined in the TAFE Admissions Guide for Entry to Full Time Courses.
Entrance requirements set the minimum literacy and numeracy skills or AQF qualification levels required for admission to a course. School students who do not achieve an Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA), are encouraged to find out about alternative pathways to TAFE. Entrance requirements apply to both competitive and non-competitive courses. You must meet these requirements to be considered for entry.
Competitive courses are in high demand and require applicants to meet selection criteria in addition to the entrance requirements.
Non-Competitive courses generally attract lower numbers of applicants and do not require additional selection criteria.
Some courses may also have specific entry requirements, such as higher levels of maths to those indicated in the TAFE Admissions Guide, or a folio, or may require students to commence at a level specified in the training package. Details for specific course entrance requirements can be checked with your preferred TAFE college.
Current School Students – Assessment based on expected completion
Current secondary school students applying for entry into Semester 1 2027 will be assessed based on their Semester 1 results from their current year of study. TAFE Admissions will predict end of year outcomes based on these results.
Should the end of year results differ significantly from Semester 1 results, the college may suggest alternative options to the student.
Students currently studying a qualification under the VET for Secondary Students program will be assessed based on an assumption that they will successfully complete their qualification. They may be required to provide their academic record or qualification as proof of completion at time of enrolment. Should the qualification not be completed, applicants may become ineligible for an offer and the college will work with those applicants on alternative options.
Alternative pathways for school students who do not meet the OLNA standards
An OLNA is an Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment designed to enable students to successfully meet the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirement of demonstrating the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy.
There are several alternative pathways to TAFE for school students who do not achieve an OLNA:
- Vocational pathway (VET in schools): School students who complete a vocational course while enrolled at school may rely on their AQF qualification to demonstrate their literacy and numeracy skills, as outlined in the guide. That is, students can meet entry requirements through achievement of the OLNA or by holding a Certificate I, II or III qualification. This excludes qualifications within the Foundation Skills Training Package (FSK).
- TAFE Admissions testing: TAFE Admissions has adopted the reading and numeracy components of the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) as its literacy and numeracy testing tool. Subject to confirmation with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, school students may be eligible to register for TAFE Admissions testing if they have not undertaken the OLNA at school within the six months prior to the TAFE Admissions test and have not exceeded the maximum of six permitted OLNA attempts while of compulsory school age.
- Alternative assessment: students can be referred to the learning area at their preferred TAFE college for a Learning Area Assessment.
- Foundation skills and equity courses: students can apply to enrol in a foundation skills and equity course.
A prospective student who has not achieved OLNA, NAPLAN or any other required entrance requirements will be provided with an alternative assessment. An Admissions Officer can assist once the application has been successfully submitted.
