In this qualification you will learn basic food preparation and cookery skills, which will enable you to perform these skills under direct supervision. This course is designed for those who are interested in cooking and starting a career in the hospitality industry.
This qualification does not reflect the skills required by commercial cooks (please see the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery).
After completing this course, you will be able to work in kitchen operations in restaurants, hotels, catering facilities, clubs, pubs, cafes, coffee shops, aged care facilities, hospitals, prisons and schools.
You may be in charge of preparing breakfast, fast food, non-alcoholic drinks, sandwiches, appetisers, salads and hot/cold desserts.

Successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to become a kitchen/cooks assistant, short order, fast food or canteen cook, or gain an apprenticeship/traineeship to become a qualified cook.
