National ID: MAR30218 | State ID: BDU7

The Integrated Rating (IR) course is an entry-level qualification to equip new entrants into the maritime industry with practical skills and knowledge in general shipboard operations of merchant ships. This course is the AMSA approved pre-sea training course required (along with the AMSA required sea service) for issuance of the AMSA Integrated Rating Certificate of Proficiency. Integrated ratings steer a vessel under the direction of the officer of the watch and work in the engine room under the direction of engineering officers. The following provides a summary of the requirements to perform duties as part of an Integrated Rating Certificate of Proficiency. This certificate is issued under Marine Order 70 (Seafarer certification) 2014 and Marine Order 73 (Ratings) 2014, made under the Navigation Act 2012, which replaces Marine Order 3 (Seagoing qualifications) 2004. AMSA Certification will require achievement of the MAR30116 Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Integrated Rating), sea-service, an AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness and completion of a series of 5 AMSA task books; people seeking certification should check the requirements with AMSA. Integrated Ratings are responsible for:

·         assisting with cargo operations

·         conducting engine and navigational watches

·         assisting in berthing and unberthing

·         providing general deck operational assistance and maintain documentation.

·         general servicing and maintenance of the ship and its machinery.

·         maintain cleanliness of decks and structures

·         steering the ship under supervision

As with any career at sea, being an IR will involve being away from home for weeks at a time, carrying out shift work in all weather, duties performed include working in extreme heat, confined space, extreme noise and adverse weather conditions, and also may involve working safely with hazardous materials.
