Certificate III in Tourism

This qualification will provide you with well-developed tourism service, sales or operational skills. You will be taught about using discretion, judgement and having a sound knowledge of industry operations. On completion, you will be able to work under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members.

This qualification gives you the opportunity to work in the varied tourism industry sectors and for diverse employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, at attractions, cultural and heritage sites and any small tourism businesses requiring multi-skilled employees.

Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered or a combination of both.

Your qualification prepares you for roles such as:

Attraction or theme park attendant, Booking agent, Cellar door salesperson, Guide in a winery, Guide and salesperson in an Indigenous Cultural Centre, Inbound Tour Coordinator, Museum attendant, Operations consultant or Reservation sales agent for a tour operator, Sales consultant, Senior ride operator in an attraction or theme park or a visitor information officer.

North Metropolitan TAFE now has agreements with Murdoch University and Curtin University which means you can begin your study Travel and Tourism Management with us and continue on to gain a degree. With a Diploma from North Metropolitan TAFE you could work while you continue your studies at university.

At Murdoch University you can go straight into the second year of a Bachelor of Business degree after completing your Diploma .
At Curtin University completion of NMT's Diploma will help you gain 150 credits towards a Bachelor of Commerce (Tourism and Hospitality Major).

When you complete this course you will be ready to enter a career working in the tourism and travel industry sectors.
You will have the skills and knowledge to work effectively with a diverse range of employers including tourist attractions, tour operators, tour guiding, companies, event operators, retail travel agencies, wineries, tour wholesalers, visitor information centres, natural, cultural and heritage sites, caravan park operations and a wide range of small tourism businesses.
This course includes practical activities and hands on experience with possible excursions to local tourism sites and working on projects alongside the local tourism industry.

Your qualification prepares you for roles such as:

Visitor information officer, assistant in an event management business or professional conference organiser, tour guide, customer service assistant for a tour wholesaler or travel agency, cellar door assistant in a winery, museum attendant, receptionist and office assistant in a travel agency,  customer assistant in a tourist attraction, ride attendant in an attraction or any one of multiple 'all-rounder' positions in businesses dealing with tourists.

Meat Retail

The meat retailing industry sector requires some multi-skilling.
